Barracuda Sayulita

Barracuda Sayulita is a casual open-air seafood restaurant in the Centro district of Sayulita, a beach town on Mexico's Riviera Nayarit coast. The kitchen focuses on Pacific catch delivered daily by local pangueros, and dishes carry no chef pedigree or Michelin association — this is a neighborhood seafood house built on freshness rather than technique. The signature seafood molcajete arrives bubbling in a volcanic-stone mortar loaded with shrimp, octopus, and fish in a spicy tomato-chile broth, and has become one of the most photographed dishes in town; the Baja-style fish tacos, battered and fried to order, are the other reliable order. The dining room is a simple palapa-roofed space with plastic chairs, ocean breeze, and the low hum of surf and reggae from nearby bars — flip-flops and swimsuits are standard dress, and noise levels rise sharply after sunset when the bar crowd arrives. There is no formal wine program; the beverage list runs to cold Pacifico, palomas, and micheladas rather than curated pairings. Reservations are not required and the restaurant does not take bookings online, but tables fill quickly during the December–April high season, and arriving before 7PM avoids the wait. Portions are generous and priced for a casual beach crowd rather than a special-occasion splurge.
