Tepoztlán Rooftops and Sierra Backdrop

The most reliable vantage points sit on rooftop terraces of restaurants and cafes ringing Tepoztlán's zócalo, along with a handful of elevated side streets climbing toward the base of the sierra; both frame the pueblo mágico's red-tile roofs and market stalls in the foreground against the abrupt, layered cliff faces of the Sierra del Tepozteco rising directly behind town. The strongest results come from a west-facing composition in the final hour before sunset, when low, warm side light rakes across the rooftops while the cliffs behind catch the same glow a little longer, staying lit after the streets below have already fallen into shadow; a blue-hour follow-up shot, taken 20 to 30 minutes after the sun drops behind the ridge, captures the cliffs silhouetted against a darkening sky with the town's lights beginning to come on below. The view holds year-round, but November through April brings the clearest air and the least chance of afternoon cloud building over the sierra, while the June-to-October rainy season often adds dramatic cloud but can obscure the cliff line by late afternoon. The rooftop terraces are working restaurants and cafes, not dedicated viewpoints, so the best tables fill up on weekend evenings and around the town's Tuesday and Sunday markets; ordering a coffee or meal is the practical way to hold a table long enough to work the light, and asking staff before setting up a tripod is customary since these are private business terraces rather than public overlooks. There is no admission fee for the viewpoints themselves. Drones are restricted over the Parque Nacional El Tepozteco, whose boundary runs along the base of the cliffs, so aerial shots of the sierra from town require staying below that protected area or using a long lens from the ground instead.
