Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park

The Grutas de Cacahuamilpa are among Mexico's largest show caves, about 69 km southwest of Cuernavaca in neighboring Guerrero, reached in about one to one and a half hours by a direct Pullman de Morelos bus from Cuernavaca's Central de Autobuses or by car via the Alpuyeca highway. The caves are entered only as part of a guided tour, which follows a lit walking route of roughly 2 km one-way through cathedral-sized chambers formed by stalactites and stalagmites, some named for their resemblance to recognizable shapes.

A typical guided tour takes about two hours covering a 4 km round trip through the main gallery, so a morning departure from Cuernavaca allows time for the tour plus a stop outside afterward. General admission runs around MXN 100 (about USD 6) for adults, and the surrounding park grounds add ziplines, rappelling, and river-adjacent picnic areas for visitors wanting to extend the day beyond the cave tour itself. Because the cave interior stays at a consistent temperature year-round, the visit is comfortable regardless of the season outside, though the park's outdoor activities are more pleasant during the drier November-April months.

Food options at the park itself are limited to snack stands near the entrance, so many visitors bring a packed lunch for the outdoor grounds or plan to eat in nearby Taxco, which lies along the same southwestern route and is a common pairing for a combined Grutas-Taxco day. Tour groups depart at set intervals throughout the day, so arriving with some buffer before a preferred departure time helps avoid a long wait, particularly on weekends when the park draws larger crowds from both Morelos and Guerrero.
