Restaurante La Mansión del Cupatitzio is the garden dining room of Hotel Mansión del Cupatitzio, set against the boundary of the Barranca del Cupatitzio national park in Uruapan and considered the most established sit-down restaurant in the city. Given Uruapan's position at the centre of the world's largest avocado-growing region, the kitchen works the fruit into much of the menu, most notably a sopa de aguacate uruapense that has become one of the restaurant's calling cards. Trucha del Cupatitzio, trout named for the river that runs through the adjacent park, and corundas con crema round out a menu that leans on both local produce and regional Michoacán staples. The dining room opens onto garden views bordering the park, giving it a calmer, greener character than the centro histórico restaurants in Morelia, and it runs long hours daily from 7AM to 11PM, covering breakfast through late dinner. There is no standout wine programme; the setting and the avocado-forward menu are the draw. Prices run 350-650 MXN per person, and reservations are recommended for dinner, when the garden tables are in greatest demand.
