Parque Ecológico Zacango

Parque Ecológico Zacango spans 159 hectares south of Toluca and ranks among the largest zoological parks in central Mexico, home to more than 200 animal species arranged across themed geographic and habitat zones. Visitors walk or take the park's train service between exhibit areas featuring African savanna animals, Asian species, and a section dedicated to Mexican wildlife, alongside aviaries, a reptile house, and children's petting-zoo areas. Given the park's scale, a thorough visit covering the major zones takes two to four hours on foot, or somewhat less using the internal train to move between the more distant sections. Animals are generally most active and visible in the morning before the midday heat, when many species retreat to shade, making an early arrival the best strategy for wildlife viewing and photography. The park's size means crowds spread out considerably even on busy weekends, though ticket lines at the main entrance can build on Sundays, when many local families visit. Zacango combines its zoological focus with picnic areas and open green space, making it a common full-day outing for families from Toluca and Metepec rather than a quick stop.
