Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada

Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada is a collection of interconnected 16th-century colonial mansions at Hospicio 35 in the Zona Centro of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Acquired and restored by Belmond in 1985, the property is considered one of Mexico's pioneering luxury boutique hotels and has shaped the template for colonial estate hospitality across the country. The hotel spans nine historic buildings clustered within San Miguel's UNESCO-listed historic district.

Accommodation comprises 37 suites across the mansion complex, ranging from intimate courtyard-facing standard suites to expansive owner's suites occupying original chapel or salon spaces. Each suite is individually furnished with antique Mexican furniture, hand-embroidered linens, original oil paintings, and Talavera tile bathrooms — no two rooms are identical. The multiple interconnected courtyards and garden terraces, each with distinctive plantings of bougainvillea and jasmine alongside colonial stone fountains, reward unhurried exploration.

The Andanza restaurant is the hotel's signature dining room, serving sophisticated Mexican cuisine with particular emphasis on Bajío regional ingredients — Guanajuato cheeses, local pulque, highland chiles, and lamb from regional ranches. The hotel's El Manantial cooking school conducts market tours and hands-on classes in traditional Guanajuato and Oaxacan techniques. Wine and tequila pairings are a feature of the cooking school curriculum.

The Laja Spa — among the finest in central Mexico — occupies an entire colonial villa within the complex. Treatments draw on pre-Hispanic wellness traditions, incorporating obsidian stone massage, copal incense rituals, and locally harvested herbs.
