Isla Ixtapa Nature Loop Trail

Access to Isla Ixtapa is by a roughly 10-minute boat taxi from the Playa Linda pier, with boats departing frequently and no advance permit required for the island's public trail; the boat fare itself functions as the access cost. Once ashore, the 2-kilometre loop stays flat with under 20 metres of elevation change, following a packed-dirt path through light coastal scrub connecting the island's main beaches. Shade is intermittent, with patches of scrub and palm cover alternating with open stretches near the shoreline. Landmarks along the loop include Playa Coral, known for calmer swimming and snorkeling near the rocks, and Playa Cuachalalate, lined with palapa restaurants, with the loop's far point offering a natural turn-around before looping back toward the boat dock. There are no potable water sources or shelters along the path itself, but the beaches at either end have restaurants where visitors can buy food and drinks. Because Isla Ixtapa is a popular add-on to a boat-taxi day trip, the loop stays busy with visitors moving between swimming spots, and the last return boats typically leave in the late afternoon, so timing the walk around the boat schedule matters.
