Teleférico de Monte Taxco

The Teleférico de Monte Taxco climbs from a station near the northern edge of town up to the Monte Taxco hotel and viewpoint, giving riders a panoramic look over Taxco's red-tiled rooftops, the twin towers of Santa Prisca, and the surrounding Sierra Madre del Sur. The ride itself lasts only a few minutes each way in open gondola cars, but the ascent gains enough elevation to put the entire town below in view, along with the winding mountain roads leading in and out of Taxco. At the top, the Monte Taxco hotel complex has a terrace and pool area with additional viewpoints, and visitors can extend the outing with a drink or meal while taking in the views before heading back down. A round trip, including time at the top viewpoint, runs 30-45 minutes if riders go straight up and back, though many linger longer at the summit. Late afternoon is the best time to ride, when the light angles across the town and the sierra beyond turns golden before sunset, though this is also when the cable car sees its heaviest use. The station is reachable by local taxi or a steep uphill walk from Plaza Borda, and the ride is occasionally suspended for scheduled maintenance, so confirming operation before heading up is worthwhile on a tight schedule.
