Playa Icacos, Acapulco

Playa Icacos occupies the eastern end of Acapulco Bay near the naval base, a wide stretch of sand that stays noticeably calmer than the beaches fronting the central Costera hotel strip. The bay's curve shelters the water here from open ocean swell, producing gentle, protected conditions that make it a favorite with families and weaker swimmers rather than surfers or bodyboarders. Palapa restaurants and beach clubs line the sand at intervals, offering chair and umbrella rentals along with simple seafood menus, though the stretch has less commercial development than the central beaches. Mornings bring the calmest water, before boat traffic from nearby marinas and parasailing operators picks up in the afternoon. The beach also faces the naval base and Icacos peninsula, giving views across the bay toward the fort and old town rather than the high-rise skyline visible from the central strip. A visit typically runs 2-4 hours, enough time to swim, relax, and have a meal at one of the beachfront palapas without needing to move elsewhere. Because it sits at the quieter eastern edge of the bay, Playa Icacos rarely reaches the crowd levels of Playa Condesa or the beaches near the main hotel zone, even during the winter high season.
