Bar Fly

Bar Fly is a small, dimly lit cocktail and mezcal bar in the historic center of Guanajuato City, Mexico, a few doors from La Rana Sabia on Cantarranas. The room seats only a few dozen people, and the atmosphere is intimate and conversational rather than loud -- there is no dance floor or DJ booth. The crowd is a mix of local professionals, artists, and visiting tourists, generally in their late twenties through forties, and while there is no formal dress code, the setting trends smart-casual rather than sneakers-and-shorts. Music plays quietly in the background (lounge and jazz-adjacent playlists) and is never the focus of the evening. The drinks programme centers on creative, bartender-made cocktails built around Mexican spirits, alongside a curated list of mezcals from small producers for flights or neat pours; beer selection is limited and wine is an afterthought. The bar opens Wednesday through Saturday evenings only, running from 7PM to 2AM, and stays closed the rest of the week. There is no cover charge and the bar does not take reservations for its handful of tables and bar seats, so seating is on a first-come basis; there is no bottle service, as the focus is individually crafted drinks rather than large-format service.
