Corredor Constitución

The Corredor Constitución is the pedestrianized spine of Durango city's Centro Histórico, linking the covered stalls of Mercado Gómez Palacio to a walkable stretch of small shops, cafes, and boutiques in the colonial-era streets around the Plaza de Armas. Unlike the enclosed markets, the corridor has an open-air, strolling character, with shopfronts selling clothing, leather accessories, phone accessories, and general goods alongside informal street vendors offering snacks, ice cream, and seasonal items. It is a natural extension of a market visit, letting shoppers move from the market's stalls into a broader retail stretch without needing transportation. The corridor is busiest in the early evening, when workers finish their day and families come out to walk, window-shop, and eat at the small loncherías and cafes lining the route. Prices in the shops along the corridor are generally fixed, though informal street vendors may be open to a small amount of negotiation on multiple-item purchases. The pedestrian setting, free of car traffic, makes it comfortable for a relaxed browse, and its proximity to the cathedral and government palace means it is easy to combine shopping with sightseeing in a single outing through the historic center.
