Laguna La Maria Reflections

Laguna La Maria, an ecopark lake west of Colima city in Cuauhtemoc Municipality, is known for still-water reflections of the surrounding forested hills and, on clear days, a distant volcano silhouette. The strongest composition places the horizon at the frame's center, mirroring the hills and sky symmetrically in the calm water, with reeds or a dock as a foreground anchor. Sunrise offers the stillest water of the day, before any wind picks up, and soft, even light that produces the cleanest mirror-like reflections; by midday, breeze typically breaks up the water's surface. The dry season from October through May brings the clearest air and calmest conditions overall, while the rainy season's afternoon winds and cloud cover more frequently disrupt the reflection. The ecopark draws moderate weekend crowds for boating and picnicking, which can ripple the water and crowd the shoreline; early weekday mornings offer both stiller water and fewer people at the best vantage points. The ecopark charges a modest entrance fee, and tripods are permitted for personal use; boat traffic should be avoided as a foreground element if a distortion-free reflection is the goal. Drone flights are generally allowed over the lake but should avoid disturbing boaters and wildlife.
