Cantina El Sarape

Cantina El Sarape occupies a plaza-side storefront on Calle Vicente Guerrero in Comala, one of several traditional cantinas clustered around the town's central garden. The crowd is predominantly local and mixed-age, with an uptick in regional day-trippers and tourists from Colima and Manzanillo in the late afternoon; there is no formal dress code and the setting is casual and unpretentious. Seating is simple wooden tables inside a modest dining room and along the covered sidewalk facing the plaza. There is no live band or DJ; background sound comes from a radio or occasional passing street musicians. The drinks programme is beer- and spirits-forward, featuring regional beer brands, tequila, and mezcal, paired with the cantina's signature free botanas -- usually a rotating selection of ceviche, ceviche tostadas, and simple antojitos delivered with every drink order. Cocktails are not a focus here. Hours run from midday into the early evening daily, closing earlier than typical bars since the venue caters to an afternoon-and-dinner crowd rather than a late-night one; weekends see slightly heavier plaza traffic but no extended hours. There is no cover charge, no reservation system, and no bottle service.
