Sinforosa Canyon Rim Trail

The Sinforosa Canyon Rim Trail begins near the Mirador Barranca de Sinforosa, about 20 kilometres southwest of Guachochi and reached by taxi or an arranged tour along the lookout road. The 5-kilometre loop gains about 220 metres cumulatively as it traces the rim of the Barranca de Sinforosa, one of the deepest canyons in the Sierra Tarahumara, alternating between packed dirt path and sections of exposed rock near the overlooks. Shade is limited along most of the loop, though the high elevation of the Guachochi area keeps temperatures cooler than lower canyon trails even in summer. Landmarks include the main Sinforosa mirador at the trailhead, a series of secondary overlooks along the loop with progressively deeper views into the canyon, and a return stretch through open pine woodland before reaching the parking area again. There are no water sources or shelters along the loop, so hikers carry what they need for the roughly 2-to-2.5-hour walk. Because Guachochi sits at a notably high elevation, mornings and evenings can be cold for much of the year, and a warm layer is commonly recommended even during the daytime dry season. The canyon itself remains largely undeveloped, with the rim trail offering some of the most expansive and least-visited views of any canyon overlook in Chihuahua state.
