Mexikaner Beer Garden

Mexikaner Beer Garden is the taproom and courtyard of Cerveceria Barba Negra, set in the Zona Centro of Aguascalientes city in central Mexico, a short walk from the Plaza de la Patria. The format is a beer garden rather than a bar: long shared tables in an open courtyard, a covered section that earns its keep during the July and August rains, and a service counter that takes over from table service once the room fills. The crowd skews roughly 25 to 45 - office groups arriving early in the evening, couples and friends later, and a core of local craft-beer regulars who turn up whenever a new seasonal tank is tapped. There is no dress code; jeans and trainers are standard and arriving straight from work is normal.

The drinks programme is built almost entirely on Barba Negra's own beer, poured from keg: a house lager, an amber, a stout and rotating IPAs and seasonals, typically MXN 60 to 100 for a half-litre, with tasting flights for those comparing styles. A few Mexican guest beers, basic spirits and micheladas round out the list, but the house brewery is the reason the place exists. Food is the German-Mexican pairing the name implies - grilled sausages, chistorra, pretzels and shareable boards in the MXN 120 to 250 range - and most tables order it alongside the beer.

Music is incidental rather than programmed: a low playlist of rock and Latin alternative that leaves conversation possible, with the occasional acoustic set. Hours run Wednesday to Saturday from 5PM to 1AM plus Sunday afternoons from 2PM to 10PM, and the Sunday shift is markedly quieter and more family-oriented than the weekend nights. There is no cover charge, no guest list and no bottle service. Reservations are not usually taken for small groups, so tables go to whoever arrives first - a real consideration on Friday and Saturday after about 9PM, and during the Feria de San Marcos in April, when central Aguascalientes fills and the courtyard runs at capacity for most of the night.
