Getting Around Vilnius 2026

Getting around Vilnius: transport options, costs, and practical tips.

Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania, on the Neris and Vilnia rivers. Its UNESCO-listed Old Town, one of the largest medieval centres in Eastern Europe, mixes Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches with the bohemian Užupis district and a growing craft-beer and restaurant scene.

Public
Buses and trolleybuses run across Vilnius. Fares rose in July 2025: a 60-minute ticket is about €1.25 (~$1.44) and day tickets are about €7.50 (~$8.60); confirm current fares on vvt.lt or the Vilnius transport app.
Taxi
Bolt and Uber are widely used and cheaper than street taxis; use licensed taxis with a roof sign.
Rental
Not needed in the city; useful for Kernavė and the countryside.
Walking
The Old Town and most sights lie within a 25-minute walk.
