The Gate of Dawn (Aušros Vartai) at Aušros Vartų g. 14 is the only surviving city gate of Vilnius, Lithuania, and a renowned pilgrimage site because of the chapel above it that houses the icon of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn. The frame is a compact, whitewashed gateway spanning the street, with the chapel's window opening onto the road and the Holy Spirit and Carmelite churches nearby.

Looking from the south, photographers capture the gate from the street with the cobbled road leading toward the Old Town, and from the north side the gate is seen with Aušros Vartų street rising slightly. Early morning is the favoured time because soft light reaches the gate with few pedestrians and no stopping traffic, and the chapel is quiet before the daily rush of worshippers. Late afternoon provides warm light on the east-facing side. Overcast days work well, since the pale plaster can overexpose in strong sun. Winter snow and spring blossom in nearby gardens give seasonal variety, while pilgrimage days and the Assumption celebrations in August bring dense crowds. Because the gate is on a working street with pedestrians and some vehicles, a tripod needs care, and early morning is the safest time for long exposures. Inside the chapel, photography is discouraged or prohibited out of respect for worshippers, so the exterior street frame is the main subject. The site is free to access, and there is no fee to photograph from the street. Drone use is restricted in the Old Town under Lithuanian regulations. The climb to the chapel is by a staircase from the street level, and nearby cafes along Aušros Vartų street offer restrooms and water. Visitors should dress and behave respectfully, particularly while services are held.
