Bargaining Tips

How to negotiate prices in local markets.

💡

Bargaining is expected and welcomed at Souq Al-Mubarakiya and Friday Market — fixed-price shops will have signs indicating this

💡

Start at 50-60% of the initial asking price and negotiate up from there with patience

💡

Shopping during weekday mornings often yields better prices as vendors are eager for early sales

💡

Buying multiple items from the same stall greatly increases bargaining power

💡

Walking away often results in a price call-back — use this tactic for larger purchases

💡

Gold is priced by weight based on international gold rates; only the craftsmanship fee is negotiable

When NOT to Bargain

  • Fixed-price shops and malls
  • Government emporiums
  • Restaurants and hotels
  • Supermarkets and pharmacies
