A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved Parthian cities. Founded in the 3rd century BCE, Hatra was a fortified caravan city that withstood Roman invasions. The extensive ruins include temples, defensive walls, and structures showcasing a unique blend of Hellenistic and Eastern architectural influences. The site gained unfortunate fame when ISIS destroyed parts of it in 2015, though much remains intact.
