A high-altitude volcanic plateau at 2,000m in Central Java with the oldest surviving Hindu temples in Indonesia (7th–8th century), colorful sulfur lakes, steaming fumaroles, and the Arjuna temple complex. The mist-shrouded landscape and cool air (can drop to 10°C at night) are hauntingly beautiful. Sunrise at Sikunir Hill is spectacular.
