Best Time to Visit
Best Months
May to September
The dry season brings clear skies, calm seas perfect for diving and snorkeling around the Gili Islands, and excellent trekking conditions on Mount Rinjani. The sea is at its clearest and the beaches are most enjoyable.
Months to Avoid
January to February
The height of the wet season brings heavy daily rainfall, especially in the afternoons, with some roads and trekking trails becoming impassable. The Rinjani summit trail is officially closed December–March. Seas can be rough for island hopping.
Climate Overview
West Nusa Tenggara has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: a dry season from May to October (influenced by Australia's dry southeast trade winds) and a wet season from November to April. Lombok receives less rainfall than Bali due to its position on the drier eastern side of the Wallace Line. Sumbawa is even drier than Lombok. Temperatures stay warm year-round, between 24°C and 33°C at sea level.
