The site of the most powerful volcanic eruption in recorded history (1815), Mount Tambora on eastern Sumbawa now stands at 2,851 metres and offers challenging multi-day treks to its vast caldera — one of the world's largest. The eruption caused global climate disruption and is a UNESCO-recognised site of geological significance.
