The iconic flat-topped mountain looming over Reykjavik from across Faxaflói Bay has become the region's most beloved hiking destination. Rising to 914 meters, Esja offers multiple trails from the base station at Esjustofa, with the popular Þverfellshorn route (3 hours return) rewarding hikers with spectacular views over the capital and the Snæfellsnes glacier.
