Sky Lagoon

Sky Lagoon sits on the Kópavogur shoreline a short drive from Reykjavik, built around an infinity-edge geothermal pool positioned so the water appears to merge directly with the North Atlantic horizon. Opened in 2021, it is a newer alternative to the Blue Lagoon, with a design leaning toward minimalist Icelandic architecture using turf-roofed buildings and stone walls rather than a lava-field setting. The signature offering is the seven-step Skjól ritual, included with the higher-tier Sér Pass, which guides visitors through a sauna with ocean views, a cold plunge pool, a steam room, a body scrub application, and a further rinse, mirroring traditional Icelandic bathing customs. The infinity pool itself stretches close to the cliff edge, and swimming toward the ocean-facing side gives the sensation of the lagoon extending into the sea, a view that is especially striking around sunset. A swim-up bar serves drinks in a separate section of the lagoon. A visit including the ritual and a relaxed soak typically takes two to three hours. Because it sits closer to Reykjavik than the Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon works well as a shorter half-day outing rather than requiring a dedicated day trip.
