Western Macedonia is a mountainous region of northern Greece bordering North Macedonia and Albania, defined by alpine lakes, Byzantine monasteries, Venetian-era architecture, and unspoiled wilderness. Kozani serves as the regional capital while Kastoria, draped around a lake peninsula, is its most picturesque city.
