Top 10 Day Trips
The best excursions from South Aegean.
Delos Ancient Island
The sacred uninhabited island of Delos is one of the most important ancient sites in Greece, birthplace of Apollo in mythology and the religious and commercial hub of the ancient Aegean. The extensive ruins include the Terrace of the Lions, marble temples, detailed mosaics, an ancient theater, and the largest ancient cistern in the Aegean.
Symi Island from Rhodes
The stunning island of Symi is considered one of the most beautiful in Greece, with a UNESCO-protected harbor of spectacular pastel neoclassical mansions rising in an amphitheater above the sea. Walk the famous Kali Strata stone staircase to the hilltop village, visit the Monastery of Panormitis, and swim in crystal-clear coves.
Santorini Caldera Boat Tour
Sail around the inside of the Santorini caldera visiting the active volcanic islands of Nea Kameni (hike to the smoking crater, swim in sulfurous hot springs), the uninhabited island of Palea Kameni, and the beautiful village of Thirasia, a caldera island with very few tourists.
Paros to Antiparos
Tiny Antiparos (population 1,200) sits just across the strait from Paros with a charming fortified village, beautiful beaches, and the famous Cave of Antiparos β an extraordinary stalactite cave that has been visited since ancient times, including by Byron and Prince Charles.
Rhodes to Lindos (Full Day)
The spectacular acropolis-crowned village of Lindos is Rhodes' most dramatic sight. Climb to the ancient Acropolis with its Temple of Athena and Knights' castle, explore the whitewashed medieval village with Byzantine churches and captain's houses, and swim at St. Paul's Bay below.
Mykonos to Paros and Naxos
From Mykonos base, easy day trips to the authentic Cycladic islands of Paros (beautiful Naoussa harbor, fantastic beaches) and Naxos (the Portara, Venetian kastro, best food in Cyclades). A great way to escape Mykonos' crowds and prices for a day.
Kos to Kalymnos (Sponge Divers Island)
Kalymnos is famous worldwide for its deep-sea sponge diving tradition β the island's young men historically dove without equipment to harvest sponges from the deep Mediterranean seabed. Visit the Sponge Factory, rock-climb the limestone cliffs (Kalymnos is a world-class climbing destination), and enjoy excellent seafood.
Santorini to Folegandros
A day trip to the most dramatically beautiful and unspoiled of the Cycladic islands. Folegandros' clifftop Chora perches 200m above the sea with a medieval kastro and the path to the Church of Panagia for extraordinary views. Very few tourists compared to neighboring Santorini.
