Pitogyros is a Thessaloniki institution that has earned a devoted following among both locals and food-oriented visitors for what many consider the finest gyros in northern Greece. The establishment operates from a counter-service position near Aristotelous Square—the imposing central piazza that defines the civic heart of Thessaloniki—and distinguishes its product through what regulars describe as a proprietary spice blend applied to the pork that creates a flavour profile noticeably different from generic gyros elsewhere in the city. The gyros pita is assembled with characteristic Thessaloniki generosity: thick-cut rotating pork, fresh tomato, raw onion, hand-made tzatziki, and mustard optionally applied on request. The pita bread itself is the larger, fluffier variety typical of Thessaloniki rather than the thinner Athens style. Service is fast and the counter moves at speed even when a queue develops; the line generally moves quickly and the waiting time rarely exceeds five minutes outside peak periods. The restaurant operates late—until 2 AM—making it a reliable post-bar eating destination in a city that takes its nightlife seriously. At €3.50 to €4 per gyro, it represents excellent value in central Thessaloniki. Cash is preferred.
