The classic ascent of Greece's highest mountain, starting from Prionia trailhead above Litochoro. The route passes through dramatic Enipeas Gorge, the Spilios Agapitos refuge (Refuge A, 2100m), and technical summit ridge to Mytikas — mythological home of the gods.

Enipeas Gorge Trail (Prionia to Litochoro)

Chortiatis Loop Trail

Vermio Mountain Trails (Seli area)

Halkidiki Petralona Cave Area Walk

Ancient Stageira to Olympiada Coastal Walk

Galatista Gorge, Halkidiki

Olympus National Park Lower Zone Walk (Litochoro Gorge)

Local Hazards

  • Afternoon thunderstorms on Mount Olympus from June-September — start summit attempts before 7AM and descend before noon
  • Sun exposure is extreme at altitude and on open Halkidiki headlands — wear SPF 50+ and carry 2+ liters of water
  • Some Halkidiki forest trails are poorly marked — download offline maps (Maps.me or Komoot) before setting out
  • Snakes (including vipers) are present in rocky areas — wear boots, watch where you step and place your hands
  • Winter conditions on Olympus above 2000m require crampon and ice axe experience — never attempt solo in snow
