Local Hazards
- Afternoon thunderstorms on Mount Olympus from June-September — start summit attempts before 7AM and descend before noon
- Sun exposure is extreme at altitude and on open Halkidiki headlands — wear SPF 50+ and carry 2+ liters of water
- Some Halkidiki forest trails are poorly marked — download offline maps (Maps.me or Komoot) before setting out
- Snakes (including vipers) are present in rocky areas — wear boots, watch where you step and place your hands
- Winter conditions on Olympus above 2000m require crampon and ice axe experience — never attempt solo in snow
