The Zillers Boutique Hotel

The Zillers Boutique Hotel is housed in a 19th-century neoclassical building on Metropoleos Street, attributed to the Bavarian-born, later Greek-naturalized architect Ernst Ziller, whose work shaped much of Athens' neoclassical streetscape after independence, including buildings such as the old Royal Palace (today's Presidential Mansion) and the Athens Academy. Whatever its exact attribution, the building's restoration kept its original high ceilings, ironwork balconies and marble staircase intact behind a boutique hotel program.

Metropoleos Street runs directly toward the Metropolis of Athens (the city's Orthodox cathedral) at its eastern end, and the hotel's location midway along it puts guests within a couple of minutes' walk of both Monastiraki Square to the west and Syntagma Square to the east. The rooftop terrace looks toward the Acropolis over the low rooftops of the surrounding blocks.

This stretch of central Athens mixes shoe shops, small tavernas, and the Monastiraki antique trade with the more polished retail closer to Syntagma, giving the hotel a location that bridges the two neighborhoods' different characters.
