Dresden travel guide - where to stay, what to do, and where to eat in Dresden, Saxony, Germany.

Dresden's nightlife centres on the Äußere Neustadt, where bars, courtyards and live venues sit within a few streets around Alaunstraße and Louisenstraße. The Altstadt offers opera, concerts and cellar bars; beer halls and brewery gardens lie along the Elbe. Evenings start in a pub or beer garden around 18:00, move to Neustadt bars around 21:00 and to clubs from about 23:00.

Culture and student life drive Dresden's scene: the Semperoper and Kulturpalast fill the early evening, jazz cellars on the Brühl Terrace and Görlitzer Straße keep music going, and techno and indie venues around Alaunstraße and Strasse E run on Friday and Saturday. In summer, Elbe meadows and beer gardens are the main places for drinks.
