Via Ferrata Routes — Elbe Sandstone Mountains

No prior climbing experience is needed, though a reasonable level of fitness and comfort with heights is necessary given the sustained exposure on some sections; participants should be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult if under 16. The guide leads the group at a pace suited to the slowest member and stops regularly at viewpoints over the Elbe gorge and surrounding sandstone towers. Because the routes follow exposed rock faces, the guide will not run tours during thunderstorms or immediately after heavy rain, when the fixed metal rungs can become slick; routes are also avoided in high wind given the exposed positions on some sections. The best season runs from May to September, when weather is most stable and daylight hours allow for a full 3-5 hour route without rushing.
