Müritz-Nationalpark Feisnecksee Loop

This loop begins at the Müritzeum nature center in Waren and follows forest paths into Müritz National Park to the Feisnecksee, one of the smaller lakes within Germany's largest national park outside the Alps. The trailhead is the Müritzeum car park on Waren's lakefront, a short walk from Waren (Müritz) train station on the Rostock-Berlin line, so the walk is easily reached without a car. The 10-kilometer loop gains only about 60 meters, following flat sandy and packed-dirt forest tracks through mixed beech and pine woodland with no technical difficulty and no exposure. The park protects one of the largest inland breeding populations of ospreys and white-tailed eagles in Germany, and the Feisnecksee's reedy shoreline is a reliable spot for crane and heron sightings, particularly at dawn or dusk. A wooden observation platform at the lake gives views across the water without disturbing nesting birds, and serves as the natural rest stop and turn-around point for a shorter version of the walk. The trail continues around the lake's forested edge before looping back toward Waren along a quieter section of track. There are no facilities directly on the loop once away from the Müritzeum, so hikers should carry water; the Müritzeum itself has a café and the 'Haus der 1000 Seen' aquarium exhibit, worth combining with the walk before or after.
