Late September to mid-October brings foliage color along the gorge's wooded slopes, adding warm tones to the granite and river below, while summer's fuller tree cover gives a greener, denser frame. The Rosstrappe is reached either by a chairlift from Thale, which operates on a seasonal schedule, or by a hiking trail of around 3km with a sustained climb from the town; hikers should expect roughly 45-60 minutes to reach the top. The viewpoint draws a steady stream of visitors, including chairlift day-trippers, particularly on clear summer weekends, so early morning arrivals before the chairlift's first departures give the clearest photography without other visitors in frame. There is a fee for the chairlift; the hiking trail itself is free, though the viewing platform area may include a small access charge in some sections. Tripods are permitted at the main viewing platform; drone flights over the gorge, which lies within a landscape protection area, require checking current local restrictions given the popularity of the adjacent Megazipline attraction.
