Marburg Oberstadt to Spiegelslustturm Viewpoint

This climb runs from Marburg's medieval Oberstadt, past the Landgrave's Castle, up to the Spiegelslustturm, a 19th-century lookout tower on the Firmanei hill above the Lahn valley. The trailhead is Marburg's Marktplatz, in the historic old town center, reachable on foot from Marburg train station in about 15 minutes or directly by local bus to the Oberstadt. The 5-kilometer round trip gains about 160 meters, following cobbled streets through the Oberstadt before transitioning to a paved forest path up the Firmanei hill, non-technical throughout with no exposure, though the cobbles can be uneven underfoot. Shade increases on the upper forest section after the more open, sun-exposed cobbled streets of the old town. The route passes the Landgrave's Castle (Marburger Schloss), overlooking the town from its own hill, a worthwhile stop with its own museum, before continuing up to the Spiegelslustturm tower itself, which gives a panorama over the Lahn valley, the university town's rooftops, and, on clear days, the surrounding Marburger Rücken hills. The tower and its surrounding platform serve as the natural end point and turn-around. There is no refuge hut along the way, but cafés throughout the Oberstadt provide water and food options before setting out; there are no facilities on the forest section itself.
