Osterdeich Weser-Side Promenade

The Osterdeich Weser-Side Promenade can be joined at several points along its length, with tram lines 2 and 10 stopping directly on the Osterdeich road; the eastern end near the Weserstadion is a common starting point, with paid parking available close to the stadium on non-match days. The path runs about 3.5 kilometres one-way along the crest of the Weser flood dike, flat throughout and shared between walkers and cyclists on a paved surface. Shade is limited, since the route runs along the open embankment, though the grassy slope beside the path offers a place to sit in the shade of occasional trees. Along the way, the path passes rows of moored houseboats, grassy embankments popular for picnics in summer, and continuous views across the river to the old town skyline and the Schlachte promenade on the opposite bank. The embankment's grassy slope becomes a popular spot for picnics and sunbathing through the summer months, adding to the promenade's relaxed, local character. A convenient turn-around point is the Wilhelm-Kaisen-Brücke bridge at the western end, from which walkers can cross the river to continue along the Schlachte side or return by tram. There are no drinking water points directly on the dike path, but cafes and kiosks near the Weserstadion and at the Osterdeich's western end provide refreshments. The shared surface with cyclists means walkers should keep to the marked pedestrian side where present, particularly on busy weekend afternoons.
