Michelberger Hotel launched in 2009 in a converted manufacturing complex on Warschauer Straße in Friedrichshain — one of Berlin's most creative and culturally active eastern neighbourhoods. The East Side Gallery, the longest preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall, is 600 metres north; Warschauer Straße S/U-Bahn station is 100 metres from the entrance, giving direct S-Bahn connections to Mitte, Schönefeld Airport, and U1 access toward Kreuzberg. The clubs, bars, and restaurants of Revaler Straße and Simon-Dach-Straße are within a 10-minute walk.

The hotel was conceived and built as a community hotel rather than a luxury conversion, and that ethos shapes every decision. The 119 rooms range from compact Tiny rooms — deliberately small, with sleeping lofts designed for solo travellers — to Standard rooms, Large rooms, Family suites, and a Penthouse with private terrace. Furnishings are a curated mix of salvaged items, custom carpentry, natural materials, and plants; no two rooms are identical. The aesthetic is purposefully imperfect and handmade rather than polished or corporate.

The restaurant at street level is one of Berlin's most talked-about dining destinations for its price bracket: it serves seasonal German produce using a farm-to-table approach at genuinely accessible prices. The kitchen's relationships with regional suppliers are long-standing, and the daily-changing menu reflects what is available. Breakfast — available until noon and prepared with the same care — is consistently among the best-reviewed meals at any Berlin hotel. The bar runs late and is central to the hotel's identity as a gathering point for Berlin's creative community.

A sauna, a small gym, and a courtyard garden for summer use round out the facilities. There is no pool or spa.
