Hotel de Rome occupies a palatial 1889 Neo-Renaissance building on Bebelplatz in Mitte that served as the headquarters of the Dresdner Bank for much of the 20th century. Rocco Forte Hotels converted the building into a hotel in 2006, preserving the grand marble banking halls, ornate plasterwork ceilings, and original vault chamber — the vault is now used as a private events and dining space.

A Rocco Forte hotel in a magnificent 1889 bank building on Bebelplatz opposite the State Opera. The grand marble halls of the former Dresdner Bank headquarters have been transformed into one of Berlin's most beautiful hotels. The rooftop pool terrace with Opera House views is unforgettable. The Bebel Bar is one of Mitte's finest cocktail destinations.

The location on Bebelplatz is among the most historically significant in the city: the Berlin State Opera, Humboldt University, and St Hedwig's Cathedral directly surround the square; Unter den Linden is one block north; Friedrichstraße S/U-Bahn station is a four-minute walk.

The building's Neo-Renaissance exterior and the sweeping interior halls are among the most impressive of any Berlin hotel, and the conversion has respected the original proportions throughout. The 108 rooms and 37 suites are individually decorated with a warm residential palette of dark wood, jewel-tone fabrics, and Carrara marble bathrooms. Rooms facing Bebelplatz or Behrenstraße have the best street-level outlooks; selected upper-floor suites include private terraces.

La Banca restaurant occupies the former banking hall and serves Italian and Mediterranean cuisine beneath the original frescoed ceilings — one of Berlin's most atmospheric dining rooms, used as much by Berlin society as by hotel guests. The Bebel Bar is a polished cocktail destination and a well-regarded standalone venue in Mitte. An extensive breakfast buffet is served daily.

The rooftop pool terrace, open from May through September, commands views over the State Opera dome and Berlin's historic inner-city roofscape — one of the city's most prized warm-weather amenities. A spa with steam room and treatment rooms is available year-round. Service reflects the Rocco Forte signature of warmth and personal attention; the concierge team is well-versed in Berlin's cultural and restaurant landscape. The hotel is particularly popular with cultural travellers, academics, and guests attending State Opera and Konzerthaus performances.
