Wurmlinger Kapelle Hill Trail

The Wurmlinger Kapelle Hill Trail is a short, family-friendly 3 km round trip from Wurmlingen village centre to the hilltop Wurmlinger Kapelle chapel, near Tübingen in the Neckar valley. The trailhead lies at Wurmlingen village on the Kapellenweg, reachable by bus route 7412 from Tübingen Hauptbahnhof to the Wurmlingen Ort stop. The route gains about 110 m over 1.5 km each way, an easy climb achievable in around an hour, well suited to children and casual walkers. The path climbs through terraced vineyards on a well-maintained gravel and dirt track, with light shade from scattered trees lower down and open, sunnier ground near the chapel itself. The Wurmlinger Kapelle, a small hilltop chapel immortalised in a 19th-century poem by Ludwig Uhland, is the trail's central landmark and its natural endpoint, with a plaque quoting the poem and wide views over the Neckar valley toward Tübingen. There are no refuge huts on this short route, and given its brevity none are required; the chapel itself is generally unstaffed. Hikers should carry a small amount of water, though the short distance means most complete the walk without needing to refill. The vineyard-terraced approach is particularly attractive in autumn when the leaves turn.
