Feldberg Summit Trail

The Feldberg Summit Trail climbs Baden-Württemberg's highest point, the 1,493 m Feldberg, from the Haus der Natur visitor centre near Feldberg village. The trailhead is reachable by the Feldbergbus route 7300 from Titisee station or by car via the B317 to the Naturpark car park beside the visitor centre; no permit is required, as the summit lies within the accessible zone of the Feldberg nature reserve. The round trip covers about 7 km with 400 m of elevation gain, a moderate outing achievable in 2.5 to 3 hours. The path begins on a wide gravel track through the lower forest before opening onto exposed alpine meadow for the final ascent, where the terrain is well-graded dirt and gravel with no scrambling required, though the open upper slopes offer little shade or wind shelter. Waymarking is clear throughout, following Naturpark Südschwarzwald signage. The main landmark is the Bismarckdenkmal, a stone memorial tower at the summit offering 360-degree views that extend to the Alps on exceptionally clear days; this also serves as the natural turnaround point for the loop back to Haus der Natur. There is no hut or shelter directly on the ascent, though the Haus der Natur centre at the trailhead has facilities and information on current conditions. In winter, the same corridor is repurposed as a marked snowshoe route, and hikers attempting it outside summer should be prepared for snow cover and reduced visibility at the exposed summit.
