Schluchsee Beach (Wolfsgrund)

Schluchsee Beach at Wolfsgrund sits on the shore of the Schluchsee, Baden-Württemberg's largest lake by volume, in the Black Forest region of Germany. The lido combines sandy and grass sections and is considered the largest lake beach in the Black Forest, giving it more room to spread out than smaller lidos on nearby lakes. The water is clear and, thanks to the lake's depth and volume, holds its warmth reasonably well through the summer compared with shallower Black Forest lakes. The shoreline is open rather than a tight cove, with enough space for water skiing, sailing, and stand-up paddleboarding alongside casual swimming, giving the spot a livelier, more active atmosphere than purely family-oriented lidos. A diving platform sits offshore for stronger swimmers, and changing rooms and showers serve the beach directly. Lakeside restaurants and a beer garden provide food and drink with a view over the water. The beach is reached via the scenic Dreiseenbahn regional train from Freiburg, travelling via Titisee to the Schluchsee-Wolfsgrund station, about an hour's journey. July and August bring the warmest swimming conditions and the busiest crowds, drawn by both the size of the beach and its watersports facilities.
