Konstanz Lakefront and Bodensee Promenade

Konstanz sits on the shore of the Bodensee (Lake Constance) at the point where the lake narrows into the Rhine, and its lakefront promenade offers open views across the water toward Switzerland, whose shoreline is visible on the opposite bank. The waterfront includes the harbour with its rotating Imperia statue, a large sculpture commemorating the Council of Constance, along with public swimming areas, sailboat marinas, and ferry docks connecting to Meersburg and the island of Mainau. The promenade links directly to the pedestrianised Altstadt, so a walk along the water can be combined with browsing the old town's shops and cathedral. A relaxed walk along the main waterfront section takes about ninety minutes, and it becomes especially lively on summer evenings when the setting sun lights up the lake and outdoor restaurants along the shore fill with diners.
