Likuliku Lagoon Resort

★ 4.8$850-$1,600 — $1,050-$1,950Luxury

Fiji's only over-water bure resort, 100% Fijian-owned luxury property on Malolo Island. Adults-only resort featuring 10 over-water bures and beachfront accommodations with stunning lagoon views, exceptional dining, and authentic Fijian hospitality.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort is Fiji's first and, as of publication, only adults-only resort featuring authentic over-water bures. The property is located on the western tip of Malolo Island in the Mamanuca Island Group, approximately 45 minutes from Port Denarau Marina by high-speed catamaran ferry or around 15 minutes by seaplane from Nadi International Airport. The resort is wholly owned by Ahura Resorts, a locally founded Fijian family tourism company — a distinction that distinguishes it from most luxury Pacific island properties and that the ownership explicitly connects to stewardship of surrounding marine environments.

Accommodation comprises 10 over-water bures built on stilts above the lagoon's protected waters, and 35 beachfront and garden bures set within mature tropical gardens above the sand. The over-water bures feature glass panels set into the floor for observing reef life beneath, private sun decks with direct lagoon entry via steps, hammocks suspended above the water, outdoor rainfall showers, and deep soaking tubs. Beachfront bures open onto private timber terraces just above the shoreline. The design draws consistently on traditional Fijian architecture — vaulted thatch ceilings, carved timber panels, woven Pandanus wall elements — while the interior comforts are contemporary in quality.

Dining is anchored by Fijiana Restaurant, the resort's signature venue serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus that emphasise fresh local seafood, Fijian produce, and traditional recipes interpreted with modern culinary technique. The Island Bar, positioned above the lagoon's edge, hosts the resort's cocktail program and is the principal social venue at sunset. Private dining on the beach, jetty, or over-water deck is available for guests marking special occasions.

The Tatadra Spa is one of the most highly regarded wellness facilities in the Mamanuca Group, with a treatment menu spanning traditional Fijian healing rituals, deep-tissue therapies, and multi-day wellness programs. The resort's house reef, accessible directly from the beach and the over-water bure decks, features healthy coral coverage and abundant reef fish populations, making it one of the better house-reef snorkel experiences in the Mamanucas. As an adults-only property, the resort does not accept guests under 16 years of age.

Tips

  • Over-water bures book out many months in advance, especially for the May–October honeymoon season; reserve six months or more ahead
  • The Malolo Cat high-speed catamaran from Port Denarau (approximately 45 minutes) is a comfortable and significantly cheaper alternative to the seaplane transfer
  • Glass floors in the over-water bures allow marine life viewing at any time of day; an underwater flashlight enhances night-time viewing from the deck
  • The adults-only policy (no guests under 16) is strictly enforced — families with children should consider nearby Malolo Island Resort instead
  • Sunset cocktails at the Island Bar are best experienced from the bar's extended deck or floating pontoon area above the water

FAQ

Is Likuliku Lagoon Resort adults-only?

Yes — the resort does not accept guests under 16 years of age. It is marketed primarily to couples, honeymooners, and adults seeking a quiet, romantic environment free of young children.

How many over-water bures does Likuliku have, and what do they feature?

Likuliku has 10 over-water bures built on stilts above the lagoon. Each features glass floor panels for viewing reef life below, a private sun deck with direct lagoon entry via steps, hammocks above the water, and an outdoor rainfall shower.

How do guests reach Likuliku Lagoon Resort from Nadi?

Guests can travel via the Malolo Cat high-speed catamaran from Port Denarau Marina (approximately 45 minutes) or by seaplane from Nadi Airport (approximately 15 minutes). Transfers should be pre-arranged through the resort.

Is the snorkeling good at Likuliku?

Yes — the resort's house reef is accessible directly from the beach and from the over-water bure decks. Malolo Island's fringing reef supports healthy coral coverage and a diverse population of reef fish. Snorkeling equipment is available at the resort.

Who owns Likuliku Lagoon Resort?

Likuliku is operated by Ahura Resorts, a Fijian family-owned tourism company. It is one of the few luxury island resorts in Fiji that is wholly Fijian-owned, and the ownership actively ties this identity to conservation and community employment commitments.

Accessibility

The over-water bures require navigating elevated jetty walkways and steps into the lagoon, which are not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations. Beachfront and garden bures are more accessible but involve sandy terrain and garden paths. Guests with mobility requirements should contact the resort before booking to discuss which accommodation options are most practical.
