Seasonal Breakdown

Detailed information for each season.

🌸 Spring

March-May

Spring arrives gradually with March still cold and snowy but April and May becoming pleasantly mild. Forests bloom with wildflowers and migrating birds return. May is one of the best months to visit.

Tips: Pack layers — mornings can be frosty even in May. Bog trails may be muddy in March-April after snowmelt.

☀️ Summer

June-August

Estonia's best season with warm temperatures (20-25°C), nearly endless daylight, and all attractions and festivals operating. Midsummer (June 23-24, Jaanipäev) is the most important national holiday with bonfires across the country.

Tips: Book accommodation and restaurants well in advance. Pack sunscreen — the midnight sun can catch visitors off guard. Light layers for evenings.

🍂 Fall

September-November

September is excellent with warm temperatures, golden foliage, and significantly fewer tourists. October brings cool weather and dramatic forest colours. November turns grey and rainy.

Tips: September is arguably the best month to visit — warm, uncrowded, and mushroom season. Bring waterproofs from October onwards.

❄️ Winter

December-February

Cold winters with regular snowfall transform Tallinn into a magical snow-covered medieval city. The Christmas Market (November-January) is spectacular. Daylight is very limited (6-7 hours in December). Temperatures average -5°C but can drop to -20°C.

Tips: Warm waterproof clothing essential. Tallinn Card's public transport benefit is especially useful in winter. Winter tires mandatory on rental cars.
