Climate Overview

The Dominican Republic has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, averaging 25-32°C (77-90°F) at sea level. The country has two distinct seasons: a dry season from December to April that brings the best weather for tourism, and a wet season from May to November that includes hurricane risk peaking August-October. Mountain regions (Jarabacoa, Constanza) are significantly cooler, dropping to 10-18°C, making them a popular escape from coastal heat.

Month-by-Month Guide

What to expect each month of the year.

Jan

22-28°C / 72-82°F
Dry and pleasantly warm — one of the best months to visit. Whale watching season begins mid-January in Samaná Bay. Clear skies and calm seas make beach conditions excellent.

Feb

22-28°C / 72-82°F
Excellent weather continues with dry conditions and comfortable temperatures. Carnival celebrations in the third and fourth weeks make February culturally the most vibrant month in the country.

Mar

23-29°C / 73-84°F
Still dry and warm with ideal beach weather. Semana Santa (Holy Week) typically falls in March or April, bringing large Dominican crowds to beaches and resorts. Book ahead.

Apr

24-30°C / 75-86°F
Warm and mostly dry with some afternoon showers beginning to appear. Crowds thin after Easter. Excellent value month with good weather and fewer tourists than peak season.
