Denmark has a temperate maritime climate moderated by the surrounding sea. Summers are mild to warm (18-22°C) with very long days — up to 17 hours of daylight in June. Winters are cold, grey, and damp (0-5°C) with only 7-8 hours of daylight. Rain is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year. The west coast of Jutland receives more wind and rainfall than Copenhagen, while Bornholm in the Baltic enjoys slightly sunnier, drier summers.

Seasonal Breakdown

Detailed information for each season.

🌸 Spring

Mar-May

Spring arrives gradually with cherry blossoms in April and warming temperatures. May is particularly beautiful with wildflowers, green parks, and long golden evenings. Crowds are lower than summer and hotel rates are reasonable.

Tips: Pack layers for variable temperatures; waterproof jacket essential; ideal for cycling tours and park visits

☀️ Summer

Jun-Aug

Peak season with warm days, festivals, and up to 17 hours of daylight. Copenhagen buzzes with outdoor dining, harbour bathing, and world-class events. Beaches fill with Danish and international visitors.

Tips: Book accommodation 2-3 months ahead; carry sunscreen and stay hydrated on hot days; evening temperatures remain warm enough for outdoor dining until 10PM

🍂 Fall

Sep-Nov

One of the best times to visit — crowds thin dramatically after August, forests turn golden in October, and restaurant season peaks. September and October are excellent for cycling, hiking, and cultural tourism without summer prices.

Tips: Great for Tivoli Halloween (October) and Copenhagen culture season; pack waterproofs and warm layers from October

❄️ Winter

Dec-Feb

Cold and dark but magical for Christmas markets — Tivoli's Christmas market is Scandinavia's finest, with millions of lights and traditional food. January and February are quiet and cold; many Danes embrace hygge culture of cosiness indoors.

Tips: Wrap up warmly; ice can make cobblestones treacherous; Christmas market season (mid-Nov to Jan 1) is festive; January offers lowest hotel prices
