When to hike

Seasonal conditions in Czech Republic.

Spring
April-May: Wildflowers in bloom across meadows, forest fresh and green, moderate temperatures ideal for long walks. Some high mountain trails may still have snow in April.
Summer
June-August: Best overall conditions on low to mid-elevation trails. Krkonoše and Šumava are popular but busy. Start early to avoid midday heat and afternoon thunderstorms in mountains.
Fall
September-October: Arguably the best season — golden forest colours, cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, excellent visibility for views. Wine country trails particularly rewarding in September.
Winter
November-March: Krkonoše offers cross-country skiing on marked trails. Low-elevation walks possible throughout winter but daylight is short. High trails may require snowshoes or crampons. Šumava blanketed in snow offers Nordic skiing.
