Paphos Castle is a small stone fort standing at the western end of Paphos Harbour in Kato Paphos, on the southwest coast of Cyprus. It began as a Byzantine fortress built to protect the harbour, was rebuilt by the Lusignans in the 13th century after an earthquake, dismantled by the Venetians in 1570, and finally rebuilt by the Ottomans in 1592, which is the form seen today.

Small fort at the harbour mouth, rebuilt by the Ottomans in 1592 on a Byzantine and Lusignan base; the roof gives views over the harbour and coast.

Over the centuries it served as a fort, a prison and a salt store, and in modern times it has hosted events such as the Paphos Aphrodite Festival opera performances in the courtyard.

Inside, visitors pass through a low entrance into a compact ground-floor area of vaulted rooms and a small courtyard, then climb narrow stairs to the roof. The rooms have simple stone walls, small windows and some displays on the fort's history. The roof terrace is the main reward, offering open views over the harbour, the fishing boats, the Kato Paphos waterfront and the coastline stretching toward the archaeological park. On clear days the view along the shore is wide and photogenic.

A visit generally takes 30 to 45 minutes. The best time to go is late afternoon, when light on the harbour is warm and the roof is less hot than at midday. Queues can form at peak hours in summer because the entrance is small and the stairs narrow. Photographers often shoot from the roof towards the harbour, and from the quay below looking up at the walls. Because the fort is small, it is easy to pair with a harbour meal, the Saranta Kolones ruin a few minutes' walk north, and the archaeological park.

The fort is at the end of the harbour quay and is reached on foot. Admission is listed at EUR 2.5, and hours vary by season, so it is worth confirming locally. Stairs are steep and the interior is dim and cool, a welcome break from the sun.
