  • Best seasonMarch to June

Caledonia Waterfall in the Troodos mountains above Platres drops about 12 to 13 m into a small pool, and the shaded valley around it suits slow-shutter photography. A tripod and a neutral density filter let the water blur silkily even in bright conditions. The forest light is soft and green, and early morning or late afternoon avoids harsh patches of sun in the canopy.

A roughly 12-13 m waterfall in a shaded pine and alder valley, best shot with a slow shutter.

Water flow is strongest from late winter to early summer, so spring is the best season; by late summer the flow can fall to a trickle. The walk from Psilo Dendro to the falls is relatively short, but the path crosses the stream on slippery rocks, so a camera bag with waterproofing and grip shoes are advisable. Mist and spray can reach the lens, so a microfibre cloth is useful. The drive from Limassol takes 45 to 50 minutes, and the cooler mountain air makes it a comfortable summer escape. Mobile coverage is weak, so the route should be planned in advance.
