Hotel Belmar

Hotel Belmar is a family-owned boutique hotel in Monteverde, Puntarenas Province, perched at 1,440 meters elevation in the Tilarán Mountain Range of Costa Rica. The property sits approximately 3 km from the Santa Elena village center and 2 km from the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve entrance. Its elevated ridge position delivers views across the Gulf of Nicoya on clear afternoons and evenings.

First established by a Swiss family in the 1980s and now in its third generation of ownership, Hotel Belmar features Central European chalet-inspired wooden architecture that blends naturally with the surrounding cloud forest environment. The hotel has progressively expanded its sustainability practices to include solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting, a biogarden, and organic waste composting, earning multiple Costa Rican ecological certification distinctions.

Accommodations are divided into four categories: Artista Villas, Chalet Rooms, Peninsula Rooms, and Nicoya Suites. All units feature warm wooden interiors, handcrafted furnishings, and private terraces or balconies oriented toward the cloud forest or the Gulf panorama. Outdoor jacuzzis are positioned to maximize views of the misty forest, and a private walking trail through a small nature reserve on the hotel grounds provides birdwatching opportunities without leaving the property.

The Restaurante Celajes is the hotel's signature dining venue, serving contemporary Costa Rican cuisine with a strong emphasis on locally sourced and house-grown ingredients. Cervecería Belmar, an on-site craft microbrewery, produces small-batch beers using local mountain water and Monteverde honey; the beers are served at the brewery bar and paired with meals. A juice bar handles breakfasts and afternoon refreshments. The SAVIA Forest Immersion program offers guided sensory walks connecting guests with the cloud forest microclimate, and the adjacent Finca Madre Tierra organic farm supplies produce to the kitchen and hosts tours.
