Las Pailas Trail

Easy to Moderate

The most popular trail in Rincón de la Vieja, offering an incredible geothermal experience through boiling mud pots (pailas), fumaroles, volcanic hot springs, and a bubbling lagoon. Wildlife including coatis, howler monkeys, and colorful birds is commonly seen. A circular trail through fascinating volcanic terrain.

Summit Trail to Rincón de la Vieja

Difficult

A challenging full-day hike to the summit of Rincón de la Vieja (1,895m). The trail passes through changing vegetation zones from tropical dry forest to cloud forest, with increasing volcanic activity near the top. The active crater is one of Costa Rica's most spectacular natural features.

Von Seebach Waterfall Trail

Moderate

La Casona Loop

Playa Naranjo Trail

Río Celeste Trail

Palo Verde Wetlands Trail
